Conservation Services supports the Stanford University Libraries (SUL) through conservation treatment, external exhibit loan preparation, assessments, training, and consultation.

We provide services for all branches of SUL who hold special collections, rare and locked stacks materials, reserves, and circulating collections. The Columbia University Libraries Conservation Program is responsible for the care of the Libraries’ material collections, including exhibit and loan preparation, monitoring of building environments, full conservation treatment of library and archival materials, coordinating the conservation of items such as paintings, decorative arts, and ethnographic objects, and coordinating the disaster.

Preservation surveys are used by libraries to determine the condition of their collections and identify necessary actions for preserving, conserving or repairing materials.
